Booths Road League – Shipley 03/08/2010
Booths Road League – Shipley Country Park
Well done to everyone who turned up at Shipley Country Park to run or support the 3rd race in the five event league. Another great turnout with 34 NDRC runners. The men finished 5th and the women 3rd and, with 2 events left, we still retain a top 3 place in all categories with men, women and combined teams all placed 3rd.
Great run from Tim Clayton to finish 6th overall and 1st vet45 with Steve Leverton 2nd vet50 and Don Aldred 2nd vet55. We also had Suzy Sharman 3rd lady and John Gorman 3rd vet55. A special ‘well done’ to Roger Savery who only joined the club on the night after attending his first training run with us last week, now that’s what I call keen.
Next up it is Carsington Water, a fairly flat course from memory (my memory is not good though) which is on Tuesday July 13th, hope to see many of you there.
First Booths Road Race 2010 – Denby
A sunny but breezy evening and a bit ‘nippy’ for the first road league fixture at Denby Pottery but what a club turnout. We had 41 finishers, a club record for the Booths League races, thanks for everyone who turned up to run and support.
Numbers obviously had an impact on team performance too with the men finishing 2nd, our highest position for some time, and the women 3rd with our combined team in 2nd place.
Chris Adams was our highest finisher in 4th, a full minute ahead of David Riach (12th) and Steve Leverton (13th). David was first vet 40 and Steve 2nd vet 50. Tim Clayton gave us our 4th runner in the top 20 closer followed by London Marathon bound Stuart Cunningham.
Suzanne Sharman, not at her best, finished 3rd lady and we also had John Gorman 2nd vet 55 and Rita Whittingham 3rd vet lady vet 55. It was also great to see so many of our ‘slower group’ runners competing, some not that slow, we also had a great turnout of the ‘old guard’ with Mike Bravin winning the ‘battle of the bus passes’!!!!
Well done to everyone, next race is at Teversal Grange on Tuesday May 18.

Booth Cross Country Race 4 – Berry Hill Park
Not a great club turnout on Sunday 14 February for the 4th Booths Cross Country race where we had a team of 4 at Berry Hill Park. Unfortunately the team of 4 included 2 supporters and a dog which meant it was left to Dave Ashmore to represent the club and actually compete in the race. Well done to ‘Dash’ who did us proud coming home in 56th place and finishing as second vet 50. Dash also somehow managed to help us finish 10th out of 11 teams and even more miraculously, our ladies team finished 9th! Let’s hope we get a better turnout next week for the final race at Ilkeston on the 21st February.

National XC Relays – Berry Hill Park 31/10/09
It was a fine and sunny Saturday afternoon at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield for the National Cross Country Relays where we had 4 competing teams, 2 in the Women’s race and 2 in the Men’s. In a field that included international runners like Andi Jones of Salford for the men and Aldershot’s Steph Twell for the ladies we didn’t disgrace ourselves with our ‘A’ teams finishing 118th out of the 186 teams competing (men) and 55th out of 103 (Women). Our ‘B’ teams finished 150th (men) and 76th (women). Our fastest leg runner over the 5km course for men was Chris Adams in 18:53 and over the 3km course for women it was Suzy Roddis in 12:16. Well done and thanks to everyone who ran, it was a great team effort.

The Twigg Handicap
A great turnout for the Twigg Handicap club race on Tuesday 23rd June with 40 race starters and almost 60 attending the post race presentation and buffet.
Steve Kimberley was the winner and was presented with the Twigg trophy, second was Steve Leverton who was also the fastest runner around the course covering the 6.4 miles in 38.17. In third place and first woman home was Rita Whittingham.
The quickest woman was Suzanne Roddis who set a new course record of 41.48 beating the previous record by 2 seconds.
Here are the results.
Third Booths Race – Grassmoor
Another great turnout at Grassmoor with over 30 NDRC runners plus another 20 + helping out with the organisation. Great results too with the men finishing 3rd and the women 2nd. Well done to Steve Leverton 1st vet 50 once again and also Stuart Cunningham and new member Chris Adams also finishing in the top 20. Don Aldred just pipped Rob Fletcher to the 1st vet 55 spot with John Gorman 3rd. Our first female home was Suzanne Roddis, good to see her back, followed by Lynda Morgan-Jones (2nd vet45) and Ann Barker. Thanks to everyone who turned out to either run or help and aplogy for the results being a bit late due to Colin Sinnott getting a new computer!
Second Race – Teversal
We had 35 runners turn out at Teversal, not quite a club record for these races but almost, we had 38 at Derby last year. Team results had us in 5th place for the mens race and 4th for the women. Well done to Steve Leverton who was 1st vet 50, Stuart Cunningham 1st v45 and Don Aldred 1st vet 55.
First Booths Race of Summer Season
The first Booths Road League race only being 5 days before London meant we lost a few runners but it was still an excellant turnout with 27 club runners in total. The men came 6th out of 11 teams (Long Eaton have now joined the league) and the women finished a brilliant 2nd which gave us a Combined position of 5th.
The next fixture is at Teversal Country Park on Tuesday 19th May.

Derbyshire Cross Country Championships
Berry Hill, Mansfield – Saturday 10th January
I can’t ever remember it being this cold. Freezing temperatures meant most runners were well wrapped up and you certainly didn’t need spikes as the ground was frozen solid. We had 5 NDRC runners taking part – in the Senior Women’s race Suzanne Roddis was 7th in 34.01 on the 8k course with Heidi Josephs 26th in 41.33.
The men set off 40 minutes later with Steve Leverton 37th in 35.33, Steve Bennett 41st in 36.43 and Colin Sinnott 68th in 42.54 over a 9k course.

See note below from Tony Chadburn…
“Dear all,
Please find attached provisional standings after the first 3 league races – note that these scores are calculated on an average score basis whereas the final positions will be based on the best 4 (3 for juniors). Any athletes shown in italics need to complete both of the remaining fixtures to stay in contention for prizes. Those athletes at the bottom highlighted in yellow with a category of N/A are those for whom I have neither a date of birth or age group – please endeavour to provide these as they can then be included in the correct category above, and may therefore alter the positions of athletes for whom I already have the details,
Thanks,
Tony”
