Apologies from the Web Administrator

ian-phone

To anyone who may have turned up for the No Walk in the Park race this morning, please accept my sincerest apologies and I’m so sorry for any inconvenience caused. I received an email yesterday telling me to put a note on the website to remind everyone that due to a cricket match the race would be next Saturday (14/08/2010). Unfortunately I got distracted with other work and simply forgot to update the website to that effect.

The race will take place next week on Saturday 14/08/2010 at 9am with registration opening at 08:15. The fun run starts at 9:05am. We look forward to seeing everyone nest week.

Regards,

Ian

Club Challenge 2010 Latest

UPDATE: 06/08/2010 by Colin Sinnot

Carrie Wing continues to lead the way but recent excellent performances from Rita Whittingham have helped her into 2nd spot.  However, Tim Clayton and John Ashover are the biggest climbers with Tim now in 3rd place, but only by 6 points from John Gorman and John Ashover sitting comfortably in 5th.
Still 6 races to go which include the two half marathons at Worksop and Clowne so plenty of points still up for grabs.  Take note that traditionally it is usually one of these races that helps someone climb into the final top 3.

Booths Road League – Shipley

A fantastic club turnout for the final Road League fixture at Shipley Hall CC on Tuesday evening.  We managed 36 runners although two didn’t count for the results as they hadn’t got club vests.
Rod Smith was our top runner, leading the race for a while, he eventually finished 3rd in a time of 26:28 over the 4.5 mile course.   Tim Clayton’s time of 26:53 gave him 9th place overall and was first vet45 with David Riach next home in 27:40 for 17th place and 1st vet40. Our 4th top twenty finisher was Steve Leverton in 28:20 with Roland Wells 29:47, Stuart Cunningham 30:14 and Wayne Spelman 30:50 our other team counters bringing the men home in 3rd place.
For the women Suzy Sharman ran her best performance of the series with a time of 30:16 and was 1st female.  Heidi Josephs 35:23 and Carrie Wing 35:41 made up our other team counters helping the women finish 4th overall.
At the end of the series our teams – men, women and combined have all finished in 3rd place and we also have individual prize winners in David Riach 1st vet 40, Tim Clayton 1st vet45, Suzy Sharman 2nd (or 3rd) female,
Well done to all who turned out to represent the club over the five events.

Virgin London Marathon

LondonMarathon.JPG

Congratulations to all our Virgin London Marathon finishers.  In near perfect conditions for running all our athletes posted good times with Stuart Cunningham leading the way with a brilliant 2:46:12 which put him in 25th place in the vet 45 category.  Next home was Rob Fletcher in 3:35:03 followed by Alan Blair, good to see him back competing after a long lay off, in 3:46:14.  Two PB times for Richard Thorpe, under the 4 hour barrier for the first time in 3:57:42 and John Ashover, just missed 4 hours with 4:00:33.  Our final finisher was NDRC new boy John Cook who had a stop start 26.2 miles with treatment from St John’s along the way but completing the course in 5:26:33 on his marathon debut.  This was not the greatest club turnout at London this year so commiserations to all those who planned to run but had to withdraw through injury.  Finally a big thank you to John Colley who once again organised a fantastic weekend for both runners and spectators.

Booth Cross Country Race 4 – Berry Hill Park

Not a great club turnout on Sunday 14 February for the 4th Booths Cross Country race where we had a team of 4 at Berry Hill Park.  Unfortunately the team of 4 included 2 supporters and a dog which meant it was left to Dave Ashmore to represent the club and actually compete in the race.  Well done to ‘Dash’ who did us proud coming home in 56th place and finishing as second vet 50.  Dash also somehow managed to help us finish 10th out of 11 teams and even more miraculously, our ladies team finished 9th!  Let’s hope we get a better turnout next week for the final race at Ilkeston on the 21st February.

Bolsover 11k 2009 Results

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We had a cold but dry and sunny morning for the race with just short of 700 runners tackling the new 11k course from Bolsover Castle. We hope everyone enjoyed the event, we will be back same time next year but not sure yet whether it will be the castle again or back at the school. Anyone with any feedback, good or bad, we will be pleased to receive.

Thanks to English Heritage and Bolsover Castle, Bolsover District Council, our main sponsor Mizuno and also Keep On Running. Thanks also to everyone who ran and also those happy marshalls and helpers, without you we couldn’t put on the race. See you in 2010.

Here are the results.

Here are some photographs of the event.

Note to marshalls: Mike says you can collect your reward for helping out at the Park Run on Saturday 19th December.

No Walk in the Park – 3rd Event

This event certainly lived up to its name (for me at least). It didn’t feel any easier, definitely no walk in the park! DSC00892.JPG
What a fantastic morning for this race. Great to see so many folk turn up to race and help out. Today we had 24 runners all of whom enjoyed the run judging by the smiling faces. Nice to see people from Chesterfield and District Athletics Club too and well run to Steve Gascoyne who won the race in an excellent time of 17:22. Our very own Steve Leverton finished second in 17:43 and Tom Hart from CDAC finished third in 18:05 after some excellent racing.

Well done to all who were there. A big thank you to John Cannon for organising the race – we now have our own numbers to reuse which is a nice touch. This race is looking better with each event. More people are getting involved in what is fast growing into a great Saturday morning club event with a great family atmosphere. Long may it continue. The race will be officially launched in the new year where proceeds will go to charity.

Thanks to all for turning up. The next event is on December 19th. If you would like to run, could you please let John Cannon know in advance by filling in the form below? Thank you and happy running to all.

BDL XC Race 2

Another fine day for the 2nd Booths Cross Country race at Chaddesden Park, Derby, cold but bright and sunny. Before the race started we had 2 minutes silence for Remembrance Sunday which was followed by the ‘Last Post’. Once the running started, we didn’t pull up any trees with the men in 10th place and women in 7th but a special mention to Liz Dry and Andrea Ryans who both turned up to run in this league for the first time. After 2 events in the 5 race series our women are still in 3rd place so something to try and hang onto. Next event is Sunday 6th December at Bramcote Park, Nottingham.
