Today’s race started in somewhat damp and dismal conditions which were pretty much spot on for racing and that was reflected in the results below! Well done to Kelechi Ugonna for bettering his last performance by four seconds, winning with a time of 16:34, Our very own Tim Clayton for coming second with an excellent 17:13 and Steve Gascoyne (CDAC) for achieving third place in 17:25.

First Lady (Canine) was Rosie McMillan who ran with her Dad Ian. :-) Well done to Rosie especially as this was her very first race.

_DSC0074.JPG

First Lady (Human) was Jessica Freeman who ran 21:00, well done!

Great to see people from other clubs – Rotherham Harriers, Tynedale Harriers and Sheffield AC.

Thanks to all who turned up to race – another good field of 44 runners in all. We look forward to seeing you all next time!

Fun Run

Great to see the fun run growing in popularity. Some famous NDRC names figured among the front of field with William and Alex Ediker. The Ediker brothers dominated the field,  achieving first and second place respectively in outstanding times of 5:56(William) and 6:04(Alex) with Karl Cannon running in third place with a very creditable time of 6:57. First lady was Emma Cannon running 7:32.

Very well done to all and we look forward to seeing you again!

Latest News:

Due to great feedback from our Bolsover race about the quick dry t shirts we
gave out, we have decided to give these for all finishers in the Spire 10 in “racing grey”.

Mike Bravin.

Thanks Mike!

Date of This Year’s Race: SUNDAY 29th August 2010

The race usually starts and finishes in Holmebrook Valley Country Park. The route turns left out of the park along Newbold Road turning left towards Cutthorpe and beginning a long steady climb as it passes the entrance to Linacre reservoirs. The climb continues along through Pratt Hall up to the Gate Inn where you can just about see the highest point on the race. This being a “Trig” point on the brow of the hill. By now you have completed the most difficult part and can have a breather along the next stretch before being turned left along towards the TV mast on top of Pudding Pie Hill. If you look towards the left along this next section you will see fantastic views of Chesterfield in the valley below provided that the weather is good. The next turn left begins the return. Just up and over a slight incline takes you past the Fox and Goose pub and you begin a long downhill section through Old Brampton eventually passing the opposite entrance to Linacre reservoirs and through Ashgate towards another left turn. Here you run through the Loundsley Green estate, which is fairly flat before going downhill for 300metres and then up for another 400metres to reach a left turn at the Trading Post pub. You are then only 1200m from the finish but a gentle incline up and you are there. A tough race but one, which continues to attract more competitors each year so the entry limit will be 500.

VET MEN WIN RELAYS

NDRC Vet Men at Derwent River Relays 2010

We had a great turnout at Belper Rugby Club for the Derwent River Relays and keeping up our record of always winning something our crack team of Stuart Cunningham, Steve Leverton, Tim Clayton and David Riach finished 5th overall and won the Male Vets team prize. We also came close to having the fastest women overall but a great run from Suzy Sharman came up just 6 seconds short. We managed 5 teams this year and everyone enjoyed what turned out to be a great Saturday afternoon, well done to all of our teams.

Hardwick 6 Mile Road Race

Hardwick Road Race Start

A good turn out of North Derbyshire runners here the other night which was great to see. Some very good performances too, NDRC took a fair share of the silver on this yearly favourite of many runners local and from far and wide. Joshua Bull won the race (many of you will have seen him at our 5k when he won that a few weeks ago! Quite a performance from Joshua, running 33:38 on this tough course. Well done to Rod Smith, our first NDRC runner home in 4th place running 36:04. Of course, Rod wasn’t the only one from our club who did very well indeed. Tim Clayton wasn’t far behind in 6th place (37:08). Congratulations also to Carrie Wing (1st Local), Suzy Sharman (1st Lady – 41:46), Julie Cooper (4th Lady – 46:53), Steve Bennett (1st Vet 50 – 40:20) and John Lake (1st Vet 60 – 43:24).

Conditions turned out to be quite good, cool with a breeze and slight drizzle beforehand.

Thanks to the organizers for putting on yet again another fantastic event and of course the marshalls for doing a brilliant job. Well done to all who ran.

Booths Decorators Road Race League – Carsington

Another good turnout with 28 finishers in the race at Carsington Water on a very wet and rainy night.  New member Rod Smith was first back for the club in 6th place with a time of 29.14 on the 5 mile undulating course.  David Riach was next home in 31.12 and 3rd vet 40 with Steve Bennett 32.33 edging out Stuart Cunningham 33.05.  Suzy Sharman was our first wimen home in 34.17 with Becki Penrose (formerly Heys) next in 35.46 then Beth Young in 42.03.
Team positions had men in 6th, women in 3rd and combined 4th which leaves us 3rd overall after 4 races in all categories. The final fixture is at Shipley Hall Cricket Club on Tuesday August 3rd.

No Walk in the Park 5k

A beautiful morning, if a little hot saw 46 runners belting around the park despite the heat and sun. Thanks to all for turning out once again to make our local monthly race a fantastic success.

It was a pleasure to watch this morning with the race soon splitting off into two packs – the leaders and everyone else! The impressive leaders quickly dominated, Ugonna Kelechi and Andy Wilton showing us some great racing craft, closely followed by Chris Adams. Andy Wilton and Ugonna Kelechi had a proper battle for first place Kelechi coming through to win by 7 seconds (0:16:38) with Andy running second place (0:16:43) and Chris running third (0:16:59).

Great to see such a cross section of runners today from folk who just run for fun – some who haven’t been running long at all right through to solid club runners and impressive athletes. Well done to all who raced – great to see a good turn out from our club too – good running from all and another great No Walk in the Park.

Thanks to John Cannon, his army of helpers and marshalls and everyone else who came to support the event.
