Third Booths Race - Grassmoor

June 19th, 2009

Another great turnout at Grassmoor with over 30 NDRC runners plus another 20 + helping out with the organisation.  Great results too with the men finishing 3rd and the women 2nd.  Well done to Steve Leverton 1st vet 50 once again and also Stuart Cunningham and new member Chris Adams also finishing in the top 20. Don Aldred just pipped Rob Fletcher to the 1st vet 55 spot with John Gorman 3rd.  Our first female home was Suzanne Roddis, good to see her back, followed by Lynda Morgan-Jones (2nd vet45) and Ann Barker.  Thanks to everyone who turned out to either run or help and aplogy for the results being a bit late due to Colin Sinnott getting a new computer!

Booths Road League - Race 2, Teversal.

May 21st, 2009

We had 35 runners turn out at Teversal, not quite a club record for these IMGP2973.JPGraces but almost, we had 38 at Derby last year. Team results had us in 5th place for the mens race and 4th for the women.  Well done to Steve Leverton who was 1st vet 50, Stuart Cunningham 1st v45 and Don Aldred 1st vet 55.

White Peak Marathon

May 16th, 2009

Unfortunately due to a recent attack of sensible behaviour I didn’t run today. Heidi and I went along to give a few friends our support. Naturally we forgot to take a camera with us! We managed to get a couple of photographs of North Derbyshire runners John Cannon and Colin Sinnott from my iPhone.

Good running from our club members in conditions that were changeable but probably better than many experienced in London not so long ago!

Here is a training schedule for May 2009 (Mike’s Group) in Excel spreadsheet format.

Chesterfield Spire 10 Open for Entries

May 3rd, 2009

The race usually starts and finishes in Holmebrook Valley Country Park. The route turns left out of the park along Newbold Road turning left towards Cutthorpe and beginning a long steady climb as it passes the entrance to Linacre reservoirs. The climb continues along through Pratt Hall up to the Gate Inn where you can just about see the highest point on the race. This being a “Trig” point on the brow of the hill. By now you have completed the most difficult part and can have a breather along the next stretch before being turned left along towards the TV mast on top of Pudding Pie Hill. If you look towards the left along this next section you will see fantastic views of Chesterfield in the valley below provided that the weather is good. The next turn left begins the return. Just up and over a slight incline takes you past the Fox and Goose pub and you begin a long downhill section through Old Brampton eventually passing the opposite entrance to Linacre reservoirs and through Ashgate towards another left turn. Here you run through the Lounsdley Green estate, which is fairly flat before going downhill for 300metres and then up for another 400metres to reach a left turn at the Trading Post pub. You are then only 1200m from the finish but a gentle incline up and you are there. A tough race but one, which continues to attract more competitors each year so the entry limit will be 500.

Attention Club Runners

Any club entering 12 runners plus (before the race closing date (17/08/2009)) North Derbyshire will donate a Trophy to the Club. The Trophy will not be engraved so can be used for any purpose.

Entry Form

Flora London Marathon 2009

April 30th, 2009

With temperatures higher than expected London was bathed in bright sunshine for the start of this years race. Many runners suffered in the heat but not Stuart Cunningham, he set a PB last year and another one this year with 2.42.32.  Liam Fidler also got under the 3 hour barrier with 2.58.58 on his marathon debut and but for injury his time would have been much quicker. Suzanne Roddis was bitterly disappointed but injury also affected her performance.

The heat took it’s toll as the results for everyone else shows, all were down on their anticipated times although Richard Thorpe and John Ashover both still set PB times.
